Tirreno Adriatico: Stage 3

Standard

Highlights: the man who had all the old bikes and kit they showed in the pre-race package. A big highlight for me – when the commentators were talking about Kittel making up with his bike after throwing it last stage “he bought it flowers” – I thought that was a just a funny description – apparently it was literal. That’s pretty funny. Guess the sponsors feel better, too. And my number one highlight – Daniel Lloyd talking about his “Bunny Hop-ometer”. That was AWESOME. I love these two commentators. (Carlton Kirby is the other). The first I think I ever heard were the classic Paul Sherwen/Phil Liggett – they are my idols – and I never really liked anyone else until I heard Kirby and Lloyd. Kudos to all of them.

Tirreno Adriatico: Stage 2

Standard

Highlights: Lots! Dowsett. Sprint finish. Crash. The Kittel bike throw. And particularly, the KICK by the spectator (apparently toward Contador). Wow. P.S. I’m thrilled there’s so much cycling on t.v. now but man is it confusing watching T-A and P-N concurrently.

Tirreno-Adriatico: Stage 1

Standard

Highlights: Quite the scare re: Omega Pharma Quick-Step during the team time trial. I heard something about possibly being penalized but it all worked out in the end. It was also ‘funny’ (which team was that? MTN Qhubeka?) when the one rider sort of fell on his team-mate right as the team was starting.

Stage 6: Paris-Nice

Standard

Highlights: Great last 10k or so. The commentator kept talking about Betancur as though he’s gotten fat (had a long term relationship break-up, ate a lot of ice cream…). When he crossed the line (for his 2nd stage win in a row? I seriously don’t remember that, sheesh) I thought (or maybe said out loud) “We should all get fat!”. Seriously, don’t give me permission like that, the guy is winning at the highest level of pro-cycling, I don’t need encouragement to eat like that and feel like I could still be a winning athlete at that level.

Stage 3: Paris-Nice

Standard

Highlights: some lovely countryside scenery & finishing at a motor sport track is always neat – commentator is fine but found I was raising my eyebrows with the pronounciation of “debut” (day-boo) whereas I would say day-biew (rhymes with “view”).
